Celeste Moore
Ms. Celeste Moore dreams of a community where her son can play safely and interact with other kids. She would like to see safer sidewalks and cleaner alleyways. She also desires a better access to local organic foods within the neighborhood. During our interview, Ms. Moore mentioned that waste disposal remains an area of improvement in her neighborhood. She wants more attention paid to clearing trash from the sidewalks and proper and timely disposal of household waste.
Ms. Celeste Moore’s story is one of enterprise and optimism. Ms. Moore earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management with a support in Professional Communication from Alverno College. She lives in a house built by Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization that helps construct and renovate decent affordable homes. An avid gardener, Ms. Moore tends to her garden where she grows tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, and broccoli. She also plants potted herbs in her kitchen. Ms. Moore’s act of care for her home and the neighborhood is evident through her love for gardening and the act of sharing the harvest with her friends and family. Ms. Moore also likes to meditate daily. She is currently writing a book on meditation. A successful entrepreneur, Ms. Moore owns CJ Tasty treats, a specialty made-to-order mini donut shop. The “CJ” in the title is a combination of the first letter of her name and the first name of her son, Josiah. The store shares premises with Amaranth Bakery & Cafe and is open on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9 AM-2 PM. On other days of the week, Moore works as a notary public. She also serves on the Executive Committee of the Milwaukee Public School’s District Advisory Council. In the face of all the challenges that her community confronts, Celeste Moore remains optimistic. She believes that with more focus on improving the community, the Galena Street will become a better neighborhood to live in.
